The Department of English (2018)
The Department of English -
Almost an ephemeral presence
Fleeting by in images, seen, unseen
Imagined.
Such Beautiful images - kindred spirits and the
Department of English.
Such Beautiful thoughts - books of poetry and the
Department of English!
The Department of English
Has been a constant invisible presence
In my life, without my knowing,
Like a submerged word. Or an iceberg. Or
A sign painted over by other more urgent
and imposing signs, breathing and living
incognito, a survivor - the Department of English,
Teaching me how to live!
At times I have flown past it in swiftly
Moving trains, the irrigated pastures and
Sown fields a balm to the spirit, as the
Train hurtled on to screeching stations,
Full of noisy clocks, their hour hands
Pointing, and minute hands out in a
Kindlier remonstration, 'do hurry'.
As I have hurried through hidden departments
Of English, I have felt their presence...all around…
Meeting you in poetry
Is a blessing indeed!
There are poetry spaces that create magic, bring hearts together and bestow love, and our immense love and gratitude go to them. Warm regards to Dr.Ampat Koshy, Dr.Santosh Bakaya, TSL Admins & family, and extended family of poets, writers, and our very own CeWoPoWriMoWE where we write together every summer.
Very special thanks to Ms. Sunita Singh and Ms. Satbir Chadha, for their inspiring act of holding the pen to power, in solidarity with wrestlers.
Love and gratitude.
